ANALYSIS: ASHBY SUAN
Analysis: Not All Poems Sing
The poem is written in a free verse form since it does not adhere to any definite meter nor rhyming pattern. It also does not have any definite number of lines per stanza. The poem dives into discussing itself and characterizes poems into two-the poems that sing, and those that do not. It goes into elaborating the characteristics of a ‘closed’ poem through many figures of speech such as, simile, hyperbole, and personification. One of many that is personified is the poem itself, characterizing it as a ‘he’ who is running away, and ‘you, the reader, who is trying to chase after him.
A poem is an expression of one’s thoughts and emotions, and so, if a poem does not sing may mean a lack of connection between the reader and the written word. Thoughts and emotions are complex, there are those we can easily identify and those that we cannot comprehend, those we have experienced and those we have not-and we try to find their meaning but we are often met with uncertainty. Just as I analyzed this poem, I tried to comprehend its meaning, like many others, but there is always the presence of uncertainty, of an absence. And that may be the point, poems that do not sing are those uncertainties, the absences of connection and meaning; the ocean of silences and the ghost love you can never catch. However, the poem does not discourage its readers to stop finding meaning, only presents ‘you’ with the possibilities of an end.

How does the author look at love and life?
The author's look at love and life is, deep in the unspoken stuff that comes to make a piece with multiple meanings, a thread, a thread that's struck in every word makes sense. As life, the way life brings us confusions and challenges, we work things out on an individual basis, struggling with outcomes and going on.
What symbols can you find in the poem?
The emblem that I can see in the poem is Struggling in love, struggling in love, and the way the poem exists is something that offers clues about life and love problems, or something else with a problem, that in some unwelcome situation in life , in order to make out, we must have the courage to spread differently and win our battles in and out, to chase the wounds, the pain, to work differently.

As noted throughout, the biggest weakness of the paper is the occasional lack of clarity. I suspect that a lot of this has to do with the difficulties of writing in a second language.
